If the gingerbread components for your house are uneven, you can smooth off the edges using a fine grater.
An edible glue for joining the components can be made by dissolving sugar in a frying pan. Then simply dip the edges of the components into the liquid sugar and press them
together.
If you want to avoid the heat involved in dissolving sugar, you can just as effectively construct your house using cake icing; see recipe under the decoration tab. If you do not intend eating the gingerbread house afterwards, you can use ordinary household glue to assemble the components of your gingerbread house.
